Cierra Tinder’s thoughts:

“I began working at Jamie’s Soda Fountain because I always had wanted to be employed where my big brother worked when he was in high school. My jobs at Jamie’s include: working the fountain, drive-thru, making ice cream, being a cashier, and closing the restaurant. I now have worked at Jamie’s for two years, and I am saving my money for college. My experiences at the Kokomo Area Career Center have been helpful because I can arrange for earlier hours and I take the job more seriously since it is part of my school grade. This work at Jamie’s is preparing me for my future because it gives me actual ‘business’ experience.”

Jim Whited’s comments:

“I retired from Delco and started Jamie’s Soda Fountain 32 years ago. We always have been an old fashioned soda fountain. At Jamie’s, we mix our Cokes with syrup, make ice cream sodas, and have a full service menu. We are closing our South Lafountain location Oct. 31, and then we will be increasing our hours at the Main Street (307 N. Main) location. We have had many students from the (Kokomo Area) career center work at Jamie’s during my 32 years. Allowing the earlier release to work as part of their grade helps us tremendously. We work around Cierra’s basketball schedule so she will work the early afternoon shift once we move to one (Main Street) location. Cierra has learned customer service skills while she has been working at Jamie’s, and she is a very responsible worker. I believe Cierra’s work here at Jamie’s will help her with her business plans she has for the future.”
