Leadership Kokomo recruiting new class

Application deadline is Dec. 2.

Kokomo Tribune

---- — Applications are being accepted for the 2014 class of Leadership Kokomo, a civic initiative that has been developing community leaders for more than 30 years. Deadline for application is Dec. 2.

Leadership Kokomo, a cooperative effort between Ivy Tech Community College and the Greater Kokomo/Howard County Chamber of Commerce, seeks community-minded individuals identified as emerging leaders in the Kokomo area. Also being recruited are sponsors (corporations, organizations and groups) with volunteers or employees they want to further develop with leadership skills. People who are in community relations positions or are new to the community may find the program especially valuable.

In addition to leadership training during the nine-month program, participants in Leadership Kokomo will build a team whose members share networking opportunities, increased community awareness, volunteer opportunities and professional development. Local issues and programs will be introduced by means of panels, individual speakers, lectures, on-site visits, group discussions and simulations.

A committee will choose 25 participants who will be notified of their acceptance by Dec. 20. Tuition for the nine-month program, covering all program costs including room and meals for an overnight retreat, is $595 for chamber members and $675 for non-members.

“Our goal is to prepare emerging leaders for involvement in our area through two basic approaches,” said Sharon Reed-Corbett, Leadership Kokomo director. “We’ll show them aspects of the community they would not normally see.”

Leadership Kokomo information and applications are available at leadershipkokomo.org or by contacting Reed-Corbett at 765-459-0561, Ext. 286, or sreed9@ivytech.edu.
