RUSSIAVILLE — Margaret Talbert’s fifth-grade class at Western Intermediate School ranked among the top 100 reading classrooms in the country this year in Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Program.
Thousands of classrooms tracked their students’ reading progress with the BOOK IT! Minute Tracker, recording more than 132 million minutes of reading in the 2013-14 school year. Talbert’s class logged 157,445 minutes of reading, which earned them a Top 100 Award and a Pizza Hut gift card.
“We are incredibly proud of the students at Western Intermediate School for their exceptional commitment to reading with the BOOK IT! Program,” said Shelley Morehead, BOOK IT! program administrator, in a press release. “These students are going above and beyond. We’re fortunate to have such tremendous support from schools who are committed to turning have to read into want to read.”
In 1984, Pizza Hut established the BOOK IT! National Reading Incentive Program to motivate children to read more and help them develop a lifelong love of reading. BOOK IT! is a six-month program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
