Give the give of hope this Christmas

It has been stated that there is strength in numbers. There are times when it just feels good to go through an experience with someone else. Whatever the experience is, having someone stand with us can be very comforting and reassuring. We were created to be in community with each other.

While there are times when we must and should be alone with ourselves and God, we must also have the great expectation that someone of flesh and blood will stand with us. Being with someone during certain episodes of our negotiating life can be very special.

God was not alone in announcing the creation of humankind. God proclaimed “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26)

Christmas is next week and reflecting on the historical Jesus, what a wonderful shared experience it must have been for the shepherds to be visited by “The angel of the Lord.” The angel announcing that the very Savior of the world was to make his first appearance, in the flesh, in a manger. (St. Luke 2:9-12)

We are to be “hope-sharers” for others. We see someone in need of whatever and as the shepherds said to each other we say to that person: “Let us now go.” (St. Luke 2:15) Go where? Go to be in a physical location or a state of mind where the possibility of awe, restoration, forgiveness, healing, renewed faith, joy, or renewal can be seen, felt or both.

Not just during this holiday season but always when someone needs an ear to listen to their situation in life; when someone needs a friend to share a joyous moment; when someone just needs a hug, be there for them. When someone comes to you needing direction and you know the way, lead them. Be there for others. By your presence, others will have the opportunity to believe that yes there is hope!
