Think yourself happy in the Lord

By Michael Carson

---- — Yes it is true that there is “strength in numbers,” but we must also be able to find comfort and encouragement within ourselves through God.

In this life we will face battles, trials, situations and tests requiring us to remain positive, faithful, hopeful and encouraged on our own. Sometimes it will appear that we are alone in our situation. There will be times in this life when situations will arise in our life that no one else will be able to understand. Then the task of remaining focused and upbeat will rest on our doorstep.

I invite you to read 1 Samuel Chapter 30. There we find that David was not having a great time in life at all! In fact, things were so bad that: “David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep." (1 Samuel 30:4)

David was in the midst of dealing with some intense issues, but he did not try to find solace and strength in any external trapping, position or person. David found his strength and joy in God alone!

David continued believing in himself through the Lord.

It is a wonderful thing for other people to give us words of encouragement urging us to press on. It is so very precious when someone gives us an affirming nod, wink and even hug when we announce our aspirations. But “at the beginning of the day” it is imperative that if no one else encourages us, we can do the job on our own.

Paul shares: “I think myself happy.” (Acts 26:2)

Be a blessing to others and pass on to them that often they will have to encourage themselves and think themselves happy in the Lord on their own.

Peace with justice, be blessed real good, attend worship this week, and families matter.
