Ringing in the new year
Feeling fine Tuesday evening? Join folks in Kokomo for the city’s 2013 New Year’s Eve ball drop celebration with music, games and the midnight light show. Kokomo High School TechnoKat robotics team’s lighted ball drop will be solar powered, accompanied by fireworks off the courthouse roof.
The evening starts at 10:30 p.m. with an adult tricycle team competition on Main Street. Cash awards will be given to the first, second and third place teams. Registration is $20 per team.
A new music, light and stage show will be headed up by master of ceremony Jeff Hodges and his crew playing musical favorites for guests to sing, dance and jam in the new year.
At 11:30 p.m., up to 30 people may compete in a doughnut-eating competition in front of the stage. Participants must register at the Downtown Association offices at 325 N. Main St. and pay a $5 fee. Cash prizes will also be awarded in that contest.
The ball drop and countdown to 2014 starts at 11:59 p.m. followed by the midnight fireworks display.
