— Meet your new Life & Style editor.
My name is Lindsey, which, coincidentally, is the name of my predecessor. Except she spelled hers the wrong way, as does every other Lindsay I’ve ever met. Surprisingly, there are a lot of them.
Just like Lindsay, I grew up on a farm. While she tended to her horses, I helped my brother milk Holstein cows, occasionally befriending them.
I was in FFA and competed in the national soil judging contest. Yes, that’s really a thing. My teammates and I would put on our overalls and jump into a hole dug in the middle of a field. Just by looking at and feeling the soil, we could figure out how much erosion there was, whether the field was well drained or poorly drained and what the soil was made of. I still love to feel the windblown silt of the Southern Indiana fields where I grew up. It feels light and fluffy like flour, in case you were dying to know.
I have exactly 55 cousins. It took me 7 minutes and 38 seconds to figure that out.
I’m also a klutz. I once fell face first in the hallway at my high school while running laps during PE. A boy in another class threw a marshmallow at me as I ran past. I mistakenly tried to catch it and tumbled to the ground instead. I can’t make this stuff up.
And, though this is probably obvious, I love to write. I realized this in fifth-grade when my teacher saw a poem I wrote about nature and entered it into a contest. I’ve been scribbling poems, stories, columns and news accounts into notebooks ever since.
There was a story about a Chinese orphan looking for a home and a column about my disdain for Valentine’s Day.
Now, I want to tell your stories.
Some of them will be funny. Some will be exciting. Some might be heartwarming or heartbreaking. But all of them will be personal.
It’s not easy sharing your life with others. But I promise to handle your stories with care — as if they were my own.
So please, feel free to call me or email me about the special things going on in your life. Maybe I’ll share them with our readers, and we can learn from you.
Give me a ring at 765-454-8585 or shoot me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And if you’re feeling nervous or afraid of sharing your story with me, picture me crashing to the ground over a marshmallow. That should make you feel better.
