---- — 1) Get in the Christmas spirit. Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre presents “The 1940’s Radio Hour” based on the book by Walton Jones.

It’s Christmastime in 1942. On a cold and snowy evening in New York, a close-knit group of entertainers at the WOV radio station—all heading somewhere else—are broadcasting the final holiday variety show for the troops overseas. Patriotic, sentimental, and overwhelmingly nostalgic, this holiday production—with songs including “Strike Up the Band”, “I’ll Be Seeing You”, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”—is reminiscent of an era long since passed but never completely forgotten.

The final show is 5 p.m. Saturday at 355 City Center Drive, Carmel. Tickets are $46.50 for adults and $36.50 for youth up to age 18.

2) Take your kids to Zionsville to learn about animal superpowers. The Zion Nature Center will host ANIMALIA at the Zionsville Town Hall located at 1100 W. Oak Street, Zionsville. See the strange and amazing ways that animals have physically adapted to their environment to find food, protect themselves, hunt, and to attract a mate. After this program, you are sure to know that superpowers do exist. Offer a monetary donation or some non-perishable food items for the Zionsville Food Pantry for admission.

3) Join other fugitive slaves along the Underground Railroad at Conner Prairie’s Interactive History Park, 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers. This interactive history program shows you what it was like to be a slave escaping to freedom. Learn the hard way how and where to hide and who to trust.

Follow the North Star is not for everyone. Participants must be 12 years and older due to the nature of the experience. Participants will be treated as slaves. They will be spoken to harshly and won’t be allowed to speak up or make eye contact with others. The intense experience will have an emotional impact on everyone, but each will walk away with their own lessons learned.

The event runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Nov. 23. The program lasts 90 minutes with groups leaving every 15 minutes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person or $17 for Conner Prairie members.
