Finished designer show home unveiled

Public can tour Matt and Daphnie Harmeson's newly renovated home

It took a team of designers three months to overhaul a Howard County house and turn it into a family’s dream home.

Matt and Daphnie Harmeson and four of their kids moved out of their 2517 Brookshire Drive house while the work was being completed. Soon they’ll be able to move back in, but not before the public has its chance to see the newly renovated home.

It was selected as this year’s Howard County designer’s show home. Public tours are available from noon to 7 p.m. every day through May 25.

The home features a 989-square-foot master bedroom suite, which includes a master bedroom, master bathroom and a bonus room that was converted into a large walk-in closet as part of the project.

That closet is something special, said Nancy Obermeyer, coordinator for the show home project.

“It’s any woman’s dream,” she said.

The kitchen has been completely redesigned, as well as the basement, which became a family room with pool table and media area and a children’s play room.

All three children’s bedrooms and a children’s bathroom got a makeover. Obermeyer said the kids just loved their room.

Everything in the home was updated to make it more modern. The Harmesons replaced their kitchen appliances.

The designers even knocked out some walls to create a more open floor plan in the home, Obermeyer said.

“It’s absolutely breathtaking,” Obermeyer said. “People just can’t fathom how much it’s changed. It amazes me every year how much talent the designers here have. They have new ideas each year. They’re innovative.”
