GOLF: Cardwell runs away with Junior title

COLUMBUS — Kokomo High School senior Kristi Cardwell was never challenged as she ran away with the Indiana Golf Foundation’s Hoosier Junior Championship Sunday at Otter Creek Golf Club.

Entering the second round of play with a four-stroke lead, Cardwell shot a 6-over par 78 to finish at 155. That was nine strokes better than the 164 of runner-up Paige Crafton of Indianapolis. Kaylee Imel, in second at the start of the day, fell to fourth with an 86 to finish at 167.

On the boys side, Ben-Marvin Egel finished tied for eighth after shooting an 8-over 80 for a 36-hole score of 156. Corey Ziedonis of Indianapolis came in with a 2-under 70 to finish even for the tournament at 144.

Other Kokomo girls competing were Kylie Kern, who tied for 22nd with 186, Carlee Cossell, who was 28th with 190 and Courtnee Cossell who tied for 31st at 203.
