Obama is keeping his promise of hope
A reader’s look at the front-page story on the “Tea Party:”
You are quoting from Mr. Obama’s Turkish speech, as he tries to quiet some of the anti-Americanism around the Muslim world.
Because he made the statement as a representative of America, that as a nation we are not just Christian. There are Buddhists and Muslims and Christians and even atheists, saints and sinners, even extremists. However, we all live in peace, one with another, practicing our individual religions and tolerating our ethnic backgrounds while respecting the right to choose what we believe.
You have spoken against the man chosen to lead the country and bring us out of a financial mess. Well, you may say, “I don’t approve of how he’s doing it.” However, he spoke exactly what America is!
America is not Southern Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal, Muslim, Buddhist, Democrat or Republican. America is the land of opportunity, a land where we can assemble ourselves as a religion or not. Businessperson, lawyer and preacher have a right as Americans to pursue their separate lives, as long as it does not harm another individual. We have Iraqi citizens, English, German, Asian. However, we live in peace together.
America is still to me liberty, justice, equal opportunity and respect.
Mr. Obama promised us hope.
He is keeping his promise!

Having trouble with your TV?
In accordance with the federally mandated shift from analog to digital TV channels, I purchased an RCA converter box. Since this would require a good antenna, as well, I purchased an RCA flat indoor antenna, one allegedly suited for HD.
After 10 or 11 days of attempting, I stress attempting, to channel scan, I am beginning to speculate, were we sold a bill of goods?
True, my set is an older model Magnavox console, but it always performed well on analog, so I would be curious to learn if others, only those who have opted to forsake cable or dish, are having similar problems.
I can be reached after 4 p.m. at (765) 457-5042, or by mail at P.O. Box 455, Kokomo, IN 46903-0455. I do not own a computer, so e-mail is out of the question.

Human life needs our protection
Before it gets lost in the news of Michael Jackson’s death, cap and trade legislation and the national health-care debate, I wanted to bring back the subject of life.
A few weeks ago when Dr. Tiller was killed, the debate about life briefly raised its head again. Let me speak to the issue of why life needs protecting.
First, our tax dollars are now going to pay for abortions in other countries, as well as the ones done here in the United States due to an executive order signed in January.
Second, in February, there was a roll-back of the “conscience rule” which allowed health-care practitioners to decline giving services like abortion that offend their personal beliefs and, finally, March brought around the signing of the human embryonic stem cell research bill, which allows federal tax money to be used on embryonic stem cell research.
As an aside, private money has always been allowed, but private money doesn’t invest in research that hasn’t shown promise. Follow the private money – adult stem cell research is successful and has resulted in 70-plus treatments. The above mentioned legislation passed in the first three months of this year by our government shows no respect for the beginning of life.
I don’t see how this isn’t a violation of that founding document that refers to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Some in Galveston are causing turmoil
To all residents of Galveston:
As you are all probably aware by now, there is a group of individuals who have formed a rift between the town board and the residents. It is not known nor would they admit as to who started all the turmoil.
They have targeted a local businessman who makes his living doing what he does. He has a family and a home and is also very helpful doing many other things besides his business.
They are trying to destroy his livelihood and, in doing this, they have targeted many other board members and employees of the town. These are very hard times right now, in which we are all trying to survive, and why these individuals can’t or won’t mind their own business and live their own lives is unknown.
Some act as though they are of school age, nitpicking over piddly and ridiculous things. There have been a few articles recently by a resident who acts one way but definitely doesn’t live accordingly, as you witness through behavior, as goes for several of these individuals.
You would think people would want to get along and always strive to help one another, but as was said previously, seems all they want to do is cause trouble and create turmoil.
If any residents of the town of Galveston should have any questions, you are more than welcome to call the city building or a board member to get the truth.
