Letter to the editor - Monday, Aug. 25, 2008

Economy was better with GOP Congress

Two years ago, the Consumer’s Confidence was very high, the stock market was on its way up, unemployment was at 4.5 percent. Then we voted in a Democratic-controlled House and Senate.

The Democrats wanted us to vote for a change. We got the change, and they got what they wanted. After two years of Democratic control, consumer confidence is way down, the stock market is at its lowest, unemployment is 5 percent, prices are way up, 1 percent of the housing market is in foreclosure.

When Bush got our taxes cut back in 2005, the Democrats didn’t like it and they have refused to make it permanent. Three times the Democrats have tried to repeal the tax cuts, and President Bush vetoed it every time. Obama has said, and I quote, “If elected I will repeal the tax cut.”

We have plenty of oil reserves, but the Democrats have in place enough environmental rules to stall any new drilling for years. To build a new oil refinery would take 10 years, an atomic generation station, 15 to 20 years. Bill Clinton made the oil shale land in Utah off limits for American production.

Obama has stated, I quote, “We are living in the greatest time in our nation’s history. Won’t you join me as we try to change it?”

We should look back two years to when the Republicans were in charge of the House and Senate before we decide. May God bless America.
