Experience counts; vote for Martha

Howard County voters: You have the opportunity to hire several people to serve you for the next four years at all levels (federal, state, county). I encourage each and every one of you to thoroughly listen to and carefully consider your future employees that will act in your interest as public servants for the next four years.

Please understand that your individual votes are very important and do count. So please, get out and vote!

Over the past 35 years of my career, I have had the opportunity to see many people come and go in large business, small business and government. In my personal opinion and in all these years, I have never seen the personal commitment and dedication to the tasks at hand like I have experienced in the last seven years while working for Howard County government, and I sincerely say this from my heart to all of you. And this includes everyone from the elected officials to the person that will greet you at the counter to say: How may I help you today?

There are many people that stand out in the crowd, however this is about one person in particular. I have seen this person work late into the evening, after a full day of work, then still come in weekends to make sure that every dime, nickel and penny of your taxpayer dollars are accounted for. While she cannot, in her position, enact legislation regarding taxation, she does know whom to contact at the state level and will quite vocally express her opinions on your behalf.

She is also capable of sorting through and understanding the hundreds of pages of legislation from the state to make sure that her office is doing the correct thing in local taxation. And normally one of the first in the state to ... get it done ... so that we don’t have local problems with funding services to our city, county and schools.

Other counties within the state are not as fortunate to have an individual with these outstanding leadership qualities.

We are quite fortunate in our county that all of our offices work together to achieve the goals established. Please believe me that this is not the way it happens in all counties.

This person is a team player on your behalf. Her record is impeccable after many years of service in working as your employee and that speaks for itself. Quality experience counts!

Many of these county positions are more complex and difficult than one might perceive and getting more complex each and every year. Please review her resume online at www.marthalakefortreasurer.com.

Actually, I think she would best serve our county and state as either the state’s auditor or treasurer. But let’s keep her in Howard County for now ... at least for the next four more years!

‘God bless America and our language’

On the sixth of June in the year of 2007 – the sixth of June D-Day if you can imagine – the Senate of the United States of American was voting on an amendment to the House immigration bill No. 1348 to make English America’s official language.

There were 36 Democrats that voted against the amendment, including the following three senators, and they did the same thing a few months before that. Their names are Sen. Biden, Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama. All are liberal Democrats. It is my belief that they all should be impeached.

But wait, a few years ago they tried to impeach then President Clinton for lying to the American people and making a mockery of the White House. But all 50 Democratic senators voted no to the veto thereby showing the American people that to the Democrats, the party comes first, the senator’s job second and the well-being of the citizens last.

Is this one of the changes that they are now talking about? May God bless America and our language.
