Putting the ‘X’ in Christmas
If you are like me (one of the seemingly fewer who remain to never use the letter “X” to abbreviate the word “Christmas”), you may not care to consider Wikipedia’s explanation. But, if spelling Christmas as “Xmas” is your preference, you might appreciate knowing how the “X” in Xmas began.
According to Wikipedia, the word Christmas is a contraction meaning “Christ’s Mass.” It is derived from the Middle English “Christemasse” and Old English “Christes masse,” a phrase first recorded in 1038.
In early Greek versions of the New Testament, the letter “Chi” is the first letter of Christ. Since the mid-sixteenth century, the similar Roman letter “X” was used as an abbreviation for Christ and is still used in shorthand today.
If you would like to know more, follow the links on Wikipedia’s online Christmas page.
For me, to use the abbreviated version of Christmas is like abbreviating the person, Christ. But for those who perceive it otherwise, let each be persuaded in their own mind.

Kokomo
Kokomo needs mayor who puts people 1st
As a citizen of Kokomo, I am proud to say that Greg Goodnight would be the best for the mayor’s position. The economy now is really bad. The property taxes have went up so much that people have to put their houses up for sale due to the fact that they cannot afford their house that they are living in. If you look around Kokomo right now, you will find all the houses that are for sale.
Greg has worked very hard for our jobs. He has helped save 800 people’s jobs that were on the line of bankruptcy. I don’t know what mayor would ever do that for a community and for the people that live in the community.
He understands that the community is not the way that it should be right now. Some of the city workers’ jobs are on the line with the day care that we have in Kokomo. They want it to be shut down. Why? Because the parents that work have a place for their child to get an education. Children need a great education. It will make them smart. They will also grow up to be very responsible when they move out to go on their own.
Greg’s family is an awesome family. Greg also knows the true meaning of leadership, commitment, respect and will give excellent service to this community. That is what we need right now is a mayor to think about the people so we can believe in ourselves again.
You hear about people getting killed, stabbed. Why? Over drugs in our neighborhoods. People want their children to be raised in a great community that they know that their child will be safe, if they just go outside to their back yard to play and have fun.
I want to end by saying that I thank Greg for stepping in to save our community while we still have it. He wants to become our next mayor for Kokomo, and I will do everything to get him there for our community. He has a lot of people that are championing for him to get him there as our next mayor.
I have no complaints with anything that he is putting forth to the community. I now ask each and every one of you to help all of us to get Greg in office as our next mayor.
When I see Greg around town, I don’t look at him as a person that is running for mayor. I look at him as our mayor now.
I want to thank Greg for putting all of his efforts into this, to become our mayor of Kokomo, Ind. When election day is here and over, we will be celebrating Greg as OUR MAYOR.
Greg, thank you for everything that you have done and will do for us.
