Letter to the editor - Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007

Help save earth; recycle this paper

I am a member of KAP (Kids Against Pollution). We are a group of kids working to stop pollution. Please help spread the word that recycling is the right thing to do!

If you are reading this letter, you have a newspaper in your hand. What will you do with the newspaper after you read it? Just think – if you recycled this one newspaper?

One newspaper a day does make a difference. You can make a difference. Thirty-eight percent of our total waste is from paper and paper products.

Researchers have found that if you recycle 754 newspapers, you can save one tree. So what are you going to do after you read today’s newspaper or tomorrow’s? Please think about it!

Recycling conserves resources. Recycling saves energy. Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable materials.

By recycling, we can conserve resources for our future and reduce the need for new landfills and incinerators.

In just seven days, your recycled newspaper could come back as another newspaper to be read again. As a result, recycling reduces some of the effects of global warming.

Recycling also helps to save money. Because recycling involves a process of converting waste and disposable products into usable materials, it creates jobs and valuable contributions to our nation’s economy.

The easiest way to recycle is to place your newspapers or paper product into a recycling bin. When you put them into a newspaper recycling bin, the newspapers are recycled into new newspapers which can be read again.

You may think it’s a big job or at least takes extra time and effort to recycle. But recycling must become a fact of life!

The more products you can recycle, the more energy you can save for the planet and society as a whole.

The best friend on earth of man is the tree. When we use the tree respectfully and economically, we have one of the greatest resources on the earth.

Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today. Save a tree! Start today by placing today’s newspaper in the recycling bin.
