People need more Hannahs

Praise for Hannah.

Yes, we have rules and for the rest of our lives.

I am happy you have good ideas for your future.

Keep your high thoughts and happiness.

You will be a happy baker and in the papers again in a wonderful way some day.

Shouldn’t Kokomo have Iacocca Day?

Best of wishes to all retired and present-day workers of Chrysler plants of Kokomo. In case you have ever wondered, Mr. Lee Iacocca is alive, well and still busy. He is also a blogger!

He would like to hear from his former co-workers of Chrysler and can be reached by going online to www.leeiacocca.net.

Mr. Iacocca also has a newer book out called, “Where have all the leaders gone?” In it he speaks plain as he always did. That is how he and you saved Chrysler. At one time, Kokomo only had two plants, now we have four Chrysler plants and another being built a few miles south on U.S. 31.

Had it not been for Mr. Iacocca going all out for Chrysler and all those jobs, can you imagine what Kokomo would be like today? Not good! For as some of you may remember, Kokomo, Ind., led the nation for one week in unemployment. I won’t forget as my husband, Clarence, worked at Kokomo Transmission Plant along with many of our friends.

I’ve often wondered why Kokomo didn’t have a Mr. Iacocca Day to say thanks – before it’s too late? That would be one way to live up to our name – City of Firsts – to never take anyone or anything (jobs) for granted.

May we always remember to be grateful. What do you think?

City, county should have walking trails

A couple of months ago, I had the privilege of working with the Friends of the Nickel Plate Trail, taking down the fence around the Continental Steel site.

As we worked, we were contemplating what the new park and recreation area would look like. We were hoping there would be plenty of trails for walkers, runners and bicyclists.

Now that there are funds available to pave the NPT all the way south to Cassville and into Howard County, I am hoping that the leaders of Howard County and Kokomo can come together and bring this trail into Kokomo and eventually connect these trails to our parks.

I can’t think of any better way to start improving the quality of life in our community than to have a trail system that encourages people to get out and start walking, running or biking.

Lohan’s quick release sends wrong message

This one has had me scratching my head for the last month.

We all recognize that driving under the influence, either of alcohol or drugs, carries the very real potential of causing death. In light of that fact, by what measure of reasoning could Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore classify DUI as a “nonviolent” offense?

That was the reason for releasing Lindsay Lohan from custody after only 84 minutes. So what sort of a message does that send to the rest of us?
