Water hike will drive away town residents
With the recent passage of another water rate increase will come more foreclosures and hardships for the residents of Bunker Hill. Our claim to fame in the past was already our outrageous utilities.
While I am not disputing the amount that is owed on this loan, I have to question the fuzzy math used at its inception. It would seem that a little foresight would have shown the payments were not sustainable with the small number of residents (and shrinking daily) paying this loan.
I have lived here 10 years and have reached a point in my life where I would like to downsize my home. While my home is very nice with many improvements, I will have difficulty selling it now due to the number of foreclosures here and the high water rates.
The answer to this is not to make a smaller number of folks pay more; it is to encourage new residents to our town. At the present we repel them.
60% of America isa taker, says Ryan
According to Paul Ryan, who in my view is a tea party Republican: “Right now about 60 percent of the American people get more benefits in dollar value from the federal government than they pay back in taxes.”
Putting this into context, Ryan insinuates more than half of all Americans are takers and that takers are bad and makers are good.
In order for 60 percent of us to be takers, it must include Americans on Social Security and Medicare. I don’t know how the rest of those on Social Security and Medicare feel, but I worked my entire life and paid into Social Security and no punk — Ryan — is going to come along and demean me for taking what’s mine.
