Plenty of blame to go around

Resentment toward the rich is not what America is about.

No one denies there are many Americans suffering in this economy. But a recent letter writer was not totally honest in her article.

First of all, the housing market was a major part in why the economy shrank. President Bush sent a Cabinet member to Capitol Hill in 2005 who questioned Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and Maxine Waters. All of them told the Bush administration there was nothing wrong with housing, i.e. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Next there was Goldman Sachs, which sold these risky loans that Bill Clinton pushed back in the ’90s. Anyone could show some form of income and get a home loan for which they would never have qualified back in the ’80s.

(FYI: The Justice Department just announced Aug. 10 that nobody at Goldman Sachs will be prosecuted. Imagine that: The Obama administration is infiltrated with relatives and past employees of Goldman Sachs. This should infuriate all Americans.)

So there is plenty of blame to go around.

As far as unions, I have no problem with private unions. Public union members should not make more than a private worker. Any local or state economy cannot sustain a balanced budget under those terms.

I do have a problem with hiring a union worker who does a terrible job on my home or such and makes outrageous rates.

As far as people receiving assistance, you have to admit there are quite a few who live with a significant other with a job and do not report that person in the household. Many have multiple children in order to receive more assistance.

If they can afford smokes and alcohol, why can’t they do a little more to support their family?
