UPDATE: Overmyer too much for ‘Idol’

Kokomo’s rock-and-roll nurse, Amanda Overmyer, hit the “American Idol” stage Wednesday night with both guns blazing. But her performance of Kansas’ 1976 hit “Carry On Wayward Son” was a bit much for the judges, who called the performance contrived.

All three agreed it wasn’t a good song choice, saying it didn’t feel natural.

Simon Cowell went so far as to insult Overmyer’s signature hairstyle, which he called “terrible.”

Simon said he couldn’t wait for her performance to end.

Randy Jackson encouraged her to stick to what she does best: bluesy-rock.

Tune in tonight to see if Overmyer and David Cook make it to the next round of the competition.
