2 injured in crash along U.S. 31

— Two people were injured late Tuesday afternoon when the car they were in rear-ended a refrigerated delivery truck on U.S. 31.
The truck, owned by Dugdale Beef Co. of Indianapolis, was southbound on U.S. 31 shortly before 5 p.m. when the light at Southway Boulevard turned red. The driver came to a stop 50 feet north of the intersection behind other traffic before it was struck in the rear portion by a Buick LeSabre.
“It’s an age-old story. We’ve had this happen numerous times on 31,” Kokomo police officer Greg Richardson said.
“According to the witness, who was from Indianapolis, the truck stopped for the red light. She then heard a loud noise and saw the truck lurch. Apparently the driver rear-ended the truck.”
The Buick slid under the higher rear end of the truck, pressing the hood back toward the passenger compartment and buckling the roof. Richardson did not know how serious the injuries were. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The occupants of the car were transported to Howard Regional Health System.
Southbound traffic on U.S. 31 was diverted into the left lane until the wreckage was cleared.
Kokomo police were assisted by Kokomo Fire Department and Indiana State Police.
