Tipton Tea Party to focus on fair taxes for all

Rally set for Saturday afternoon in Tipton Park.

TIPTON — Before the barbecues and fireworks begin Saturday, more than 100 people are expected to gather in Tipton City Park to protest taxes.

Tipton resident Jocelyn Lynch has organized a Taxed Enough Already Party for 3 p.m. Saturday at the park’s gazebo.

“It’s just rallying fellow Americans together to let Washington know we’re tired of being abused,” Lynch said. “... Our liberty is dying more and more every day.

“We’ve been in an apathy state for a good while. Now we’ve come to a dependency state. The next thing after dependency is bondage.”

Guest speakers will discuss the topics of socialism vs. capitalism, cap and trade regulations and fair taxation. There will also be singers and open-mic time.

Lynch said the Tea Party was scheduled for Independence Day as a way to acknowledge the “true meaning” of the holiday. All the topics discussed will focus on federal issues.

“This is a way to actually realize the gift the founding fathers gave us with freedom,” she said. “ ... Independence Day isn’t all about hot dogs and fireworks shows and family get-togethers. Really, it’s about remembering what our liberties cost and what the fight was really about.”

Lynch also organized the April 15 Tipton Tax Day Tea Party, which attracted 150 to 200 people. She said she expects the same number of people to show up Saturday.

“It still amazes me how many people, when I’m handing out these fliers and things, ... they’ll say ‘Huh?’” she said. “I don’t think the word is out yet that these rallies are going on across the country.”
