Woman airlifted after crash

Police say failure to yield caused accident on U.S. 31

Tribune staff report

A Bunker Hill woman suffered serious injuries Friday morning when the car she was driving was hit by another car that ran a stoplight at U.S. 31 and Ind. 18.

Linda K. Hall, 56, was Lifelined to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from the scene with head and neck injuries, the Miami County Sheriff Department reported.

Hall was listed in critical condition as of Friday evening.

Deputy Jeff Williams reported that Hall was driving west on Ind. 18 in a 1994 Buick Century about 8:30 a.m. when she was hit broadside by a 2008 Saturn that ran the stoplight.

The collision caused the Saturn to spin around, ejecting Hall from the car.

The driver of the Saturn, Michael Bembenick, 22, West Lafayette, was traveling north on U.S. 31 and ran the stoplight at Ind. 18, Williams said.

Bembenick suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital. Williams said Bembenick also was charged with disregarding an automatic signal and failure to yield.

Miami deputies were assisted by Indiana State Police, Galveston EMS, Galveston Fire Department and Dukes EMS.
