Melverine Gruber and Kaye Newlin adjust the scarf and hat on Old Ben, who was given honorary membership into National Red Hat Society Saturday. Members of the local Lavender and Lace chapter of the Red Hat Society dressed Old Ben in a red and purple hat and tie to greet more than 150 Red Hat members at the park for the annual picnic. In all, 18 Red Hat chapters were represented, including Kokomo, Castleton, Indianapolis, Logansport, Lafayette, Jamestown and Peru. The Red Hat Society is open to women age 50 and over.
