BUNKER HILL — If you see a large plume of smoke and emergency vehicles activated at Grissom Air Reserve Base Thursday morning, don’t be alarmed — it’s just an exercise.
The base is conducting a disaster exercise beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to ready themselves in case of a civilian/military plane incident on the base, Lt. Col. Gary Lockard said this week.
The mock disaster will include a DC-8 aircraft from the Grissom Air Museum and a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 434th Airfueling Wing. Actions by first responders and other accident response teams will be evaluated.
The exercise is part of Grissom’s disaster response training program.
