Police intercept cocaine shipment

Two Chicago men accused of bringing $38,000 worth of the drug to Kokomo

By MIKE FLETCHER
Tribune staff writer

Howard County Drug Task Force officers intercepted a shipment of cocaine coming into Kokomo Tuesday evening and arrested two alleged dealers from Chicago.

Kokomo Police Officers Chad VanCamp and Adam Martin, assisted by the task force, stopped a van at U.S. 31 and Washington Street about 8:30 p.m. and arrested Travis Lee Miller, 18, and Anthony Marshall, 26, both of Chicago, on felony cocaine charges.

Both men were arrested without incident.

After the stop, officers had the car towed to the Kokomo Police Department, where they reportedly found 3/4 of a pound of cocaine with an approximate street value of $38,000 and a small amount of marijuana mixed in with a bag of clothes, Capt. Robert Salinas reported Wednesday.

Police did not find any weapons in the search.

Kokomo Police Officer James Lushin, of the task force, believes the men had been transporting large amounts of cocaine into Kokomo from Chicago twice a week.

The suspects were transported to the Howard County jail, where they are being held without bail. Both face Class C felony charge of possession of cocaine and an A felony possession of cocaine with the intent to deal over 3 grams. Marshall also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana, Salinas reported. Miller also faces charges in Illinois, jail officials said.

The investigation continues with more charges and arrests expected.
