Glassburn featured in Cosmo

Greentown man named state’s top bachelor

By TOM CAREY
Tribune community news editor

There’s more to Chase Glassburn than his recent mention in Cosmopolitan Magazine.

Glassburn is honored in the magazine’s current edition as Cosmopolitan’s 2007 Indiana Bachelor of the Year.

“He’s my muscles; he’s my cement man,” said Paris Horner, owner of Eden’s Way in Kokomo where Chase is employed.

He’s not only a good worker, but a bit of eye candy, she said.

Horner said a woman came in one day, spotted Glassburn, and returned later with her daughter so the offspring could grab a glance, too.

“He’s a great kid,” said Chase’s mother Kim Glassburn, “a nice Christian guy.”

His mother would like him to find a wife from all his recent fame.

Kim, employed by Kokomo Eye Physicians, and her husband Phil, a UPS driver, said they’re proud of their son. In addition to working at Eden’s Way, Kim said, the 22-year old Eastern High School graduate supervises the school’s weight room a couple of nights each week and drives a tractor for Downing Farms. He’s also pursuing a Purdue organizational leadership supervision degree at the local campus; with a 4.0 grade point average. He hopes one day to have a supervisory position in a plant, said sister Janelle Glassburn.

“He’s personable; definitely dependable,” said Horner.

“He’s the sweetest guy in the world,” she continued. And as far as the bachelor nod, well, “they couldn’t have picked a better person in the world. He’s always smiling, happy, cheerful”

Janelle said a lot of her friends tell her “Chase is so hot ... he’s so cute.” But add modesty to his attributes, Sis said, as “my brother always needs people to reassure him, (as he claims) ‘I don’t look that good.’”

Janelle’s proud of her brother, knowing how hard he’s worked for his accomplishments. And while the magazine folks noticed Chase, Janelle heaped praise on him, too. He’s hard working, she said, dedicated to his workouts and diet; “he likes to keep a healthy appearance.” She noted his 4.0 grade point average and dedication to succeed, all of which she said makes him a true role model.

Plus, “his Christian attitude helps him ... he’ll do anything for anybody.”

Janelle said she and Chase were returning from vacation about this time last year when she read of the contest.

“You could do this,” Janelle told her brother. “We should nominate you.”

“I was like ‘OK, you can do it,” Chase said of his sister’s proposal. “I didn’t expect anything from it, but I thought it’d be something she’d have fun with.”

And she did; Cosmopolitan judges selected Chase. He knew of the honor this summer, but was not allowed to tell anyone.

When he got the official notification, “I was shocked,” thinking at the time “I can’t believe this just happened.”

Chase said he called his sister immediately, and she cried with joy.

The hunks are featured in the November issue of Cosmopolitan.

The young man flew out to New York recently and the camera caught a glimpse of him on The Today Show.

“They zoomed in on him,” Janelle said, who watched the segment and admitted “I cried, I was so excited.”

Chase arrived in New York this past Wednesday.

His Thursday agenda included lunch, which was filmed by an Inside Edition crew. They also went through a run-through of Thursday’s event, where the nationwide winner was to be announced. He attended an after-event party Thursday, returned to his room, and flew back to the Hoosier state Friday.

Chase enjoyed meeting the other bachelors, including the man from Hawaii who bought each of the bachelors a box of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts.

Cosmopolitan magazine named Ohio’s Brian Watkins as its 2007 Bachelor of the Year.

“At Cosmo, there’s nothing we love more than a group of super hotties with personalities to match,” said Cosmo Editor-in-Chief Kate White. “This year’s bachelors definitely fit that bill, and I predict that once the word gets out about these guys, they won’t stay single for long!”

“It was a great experience,” Chase said, adding he enjoyed “being a ‘one-day’ celebrity.”
