Chase, accident leads to arrest

Chad E. Walker faces six charges in the late night chase.

What started out as a domestic-related call to police turned into a wild vehicle chase, a crash and a foot chase that ended with one arrest and several people injured.

It all began when Kokomo police were called shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday to the area near Walmart on East Markland Avenue in reference to an invasion of privacy call.

According to police, Chad E. Walker, 23, Hemlock, was following his ex-wife, who had a no contact order out on him.

When police responded, officers saw Walker driving a black Ford Ranger through the parking lot and tried to make contact with him. Walker refused and the chase was on, according to police.

Walker drove through Don Pancho’s parking lot at a high rate of speed, then west on Markland Avenue. He drove through the red light at U.S. 31 and turned south onto the highway and collided with a gray 1999 Chrysler four-door. Walker's truck then spun around by the impact of the crash and a hit a 2001 Jeep Cherokee.

Walker then fled on foot through Long John Silver’s parking lot, then back south through Burger King parking lot before being captured by police.

The driver of the Chrysler, Gregory Bussell, 55, complained of neck pain and the driver of the Jeep, Michelle Brewer, 47, suffered pain to her back in the crash. A passenger in the Jeep, Mark Brewer, 53, also suffered neck pain, police said.

During the foot chase, Officer Craig Musgrave fell while attempting to take Walker into custody and was injured. He suffered bruises to his face, hands and knee.

Police charged Walker with invasion of privacy, two counts of resisting law enforcement, criminal reckless, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person and failure to stop after an accident involving personal injury.
