51st UPDATE: News from snowstorm


Kokomo —

STATE POLICE CLOSE SOUTHBOUND LANE OF U.S. 31 BYPASS: Tribune reporter Carson Gerber says, at 2:55 p.m. Monday, the southbound lane of the new U.S. 31 bypass is temporarily closed, as state Department of Transportation plows try to clear 4-foot snow drifts from the roadway.

ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL TUESDAY CLOSINGS: PET/CT will reopen Wednesday; Physical & Sports Therapy at Southway and Forest Park will be closed.

KOKOMO SCHOOL BOARD MEETING CANCELED: No word yet when meeting will

be rescheduled, Tribune reporter Lauren Fitch says.

ANOTHER ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL CLOSING: St. Joseph Hospital Sleep Disorders Center is closed Monday.

CALLS FOR SERVICE: Tribune reporter Carson Gerber says Kokomo and Howard County officers have been dispatched to 125 snow-related calls since 11 a.m. Monday. No deaths reported.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: According to Tribune reporter Martin Slagter, 105 homes still without power at 2 p.m. Monday in Tipton County; 17 residences without power in Howard County.

DUKE MAKES ESTIMATE FOR RETURNING POWER: Tribune reporter Martin Slagter says Duke Energy anticipates power to be restored in the city of Kokomo to those without it by 11:30 p.m. Monday.


KOKOMO CHANGES TRAVEL STATUS, COUNTY RESTRICTIONS REMAIN: The city of Kokomo now is under a travel watch. People may travel to and from work. The rest of Howard County remains under a travel warning until midnight. Driving is limited to only emergency workers and essential government personnel.

PERU LIFTS TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS: Tribune reporter Carson Gerber reports Peru has lifted "Code Red" travel emergency within the city limits. Mayor Jim Walker says roads are passable. Miami County, however, is still under the "Code Red" travel status.
