---- — IU Health Tiptongets accreditation

The Indiana University Health system is touting the fact several of its hospitals, including IU Health Tipton Hospital, have achieved System Chest Pain Center accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.

Chest Pain Center accreditation is an exclusive, highly sought after seal of approval given only to hospitals that demonstrate excellence in quickly evaluating and treating individuals experiencing chest pain and other symptoms of a heart attack.

Accredited Chest Pain Centers have efficient, well-run processes in place combined with a high level of expertise to ensure fast, accurate diagnoses and shorter door-to-treatment times. Such centers also have better outcomes for patients with heart attack symptoms, according to a national study published in The American Journal of Cardiology.

Hospitals seeking to become fully accredited Chest Pain Centers must follow strict criteria, meet high performance standards and undergo ongoing evaluation to ensure processes are constantly evaluated, measured and improved. Such hospitals must also have outreach programs dedicated to educating the public about when to seek immediate medical attention if they experience warning signs of a possible heart attack.

IU Health’s System Chest Pain Center accreditation marks the first time the Society has simultaneously granted this prestigious designation to such a large number of hospitals within one system. Nine IU Health hospitals participated in this recent initiative to become accredited Chest Pain Centers.
