Kokomo teen absent since Dec. 20

Boy contacted his mother once since leaving home.

Kalota Dowling is still searching for her son during the holiday season after he left their home Dec. 20.

LeRoy Young III, 16, Kokomo, was last seen Dec. 26 at Kroger in Kokomo by an employee with the Kinsey Youth Center, where Young sees a probation officer.

Young left Dowling’s home on North Webster Street at 8:15 a.m. Dec. 20 and has only made contact with Dowling once, on Dec. 24, since his departure.

“He called to say, ‘Mom, I don’t want to argue, I’m in a safe place and Merry Christmas,’ and he hung up,” Dowling said. “We haven’t been able to get in touch with him since.”

The fact Young has maintained some contact since his departure and that he was seen in the Kokomo area a little less than a week later could indicate he hasn’t traveled far since his disappearance.

Kokomo Police Department officer Alex Harper said he has been in contact with Dowling every day since her son’s disappearance and that a missing person report was filed.

Harper said he has not been able to get in contact with Young’s friends, but has not had any success getting information leading to his whereabouts.

Young is a sophomore at Kokomo High School and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black T-shirt and a black and white jersey with red Air Jordans.

Dowling said she and her sister planned on going door-to-door to put up posters of Young in surrounding neighborhoods.

“You start to worry and wonder what’s going on with your child,” Dowling said. “I just want him to return safely.”

Those with information on Young’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Kokomo Police Department at 765-459-5101.
