---- — PERU — A 22-year-old Kokomo man faces felony charges of arson and burglary after deputies say he entered a vacant house and set fire to it twice.
Firefighters were dispatched to a house in the 13000 block of South Clover Court in Deer Creek Estates Nov. 27 and Dec. 10 due to structure fires.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Department found the fires suspicious and launched an investigation into the incidents.
The investigation led to the arrest of Johnny W. Harrington, 3700 block of West Meadow Court, Kokomo. Deputies said Harrington made entry to the house on at least two occasions with the intent to steal items from the home.
Investigators said Harrington also set fire to the house both times he entered it. Damage to the house was estimated at $21,500.
Harrington also was arrested earlier this month after allegedly tearing the meter off his house in Deer Creek Estates and stealing electricity using two spoon handles, according to officials with Miami-Cass REMC.
During that investigation, police said Harrington was in possession of stolen property and arrested him on a charge of theft.
Harrington is now additionally charged with two counts of arson, a class B felony, and two counts of burglary, a class B felony.
He is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on an $111,000 bond.
