City workers were out Friday and again Monday, clearing space for a new trail on the south side of the Wildcat Creek, near the old Buckeye Street train trestle.
City administration officials couldn’t be immediately reached for comment, but workers Monday were excavating a hillside to make way for the trail, which will head south from the creek toward Markland Avenue.
City engineer Carey Stranahan posted a picture of the trail work Friday on the Discover Howard County Trails Facebook page.
In response to questions, Stranahan said the trail will use the old train trestle to cross the creek, and an old garage in the area will have to be torn down to make way for the project. Stranahan said the old “ice house” building on South Main Street will not be demolished. The city accepted the ice house as a donation from owner John Hingst last year.
