INDOT reopens U.S. 31 in Tipton

Work on retaining east wall along U.S. 31 to continue this winter.

From staff reports

— The Indiana Department of Transportation has reopened U.S. 31 lanes in northern Tipton County that were previously closed for construction activities.

Traffic has been restored to all lanes between County Road 550 North to 700 North.

Walsh Construction, the state’s prime contractor for building the U.S. 31 Corridor south terminus, has constructed crossover lanes in the median area at that location to be used at a later date for traffic pattern alterations.

INDOT reported that 600 North remains closed east of U.S. 31 between Michael Lane and 700 West. But Michael Lane is open to local traffic approaching from 550 East.

INDOT’s contractor is currently constructing a mechanically-stabilized earth retaining wall east of U.S. 31 for the south terminus bridge. This work will continue into winter months.

The $14.3 million Major Moves south terminus project includes 1.5 miles of U.S. 31 mainline, the 600 North bridge and ramps connecting new roadway with existing U.S. 31.
