The Kokomo Fire Department has promoted longtime firefighter and emergency medical technician Arnold Stone to captain.
Stone, who has been with the department since 1987, has achieved the rank of firefighter, EMT and chauffeur.
He has earned certifications as a Hazardous Materials Technician, EMT, Incident Training Officer and First Class Firefighter.
Stone said the promotion was an honor after 26 years with the department.
“I’m obviously grateful for this promotion,” he said. “I’ve been trying for a while to earn this rank and I’m very appreciative of it. I hope to be able to do a good service for the people of Kokomo.”
Stone said his experience working with both the emergency management agency and the fire department have provided him with a variety of experiences that will allow him to tackle his new position right away.
“The bulk of my runs have been serving the EMS, so I have a lot of experience servicing citizens in that respect,” he said. “I’m also well in tune with many of the aspects of firefighting. Cross training with firefighters has allowed me to learn many of the tactics of firefighting and I’m confident I’ll be able to carry out those roles as captain.”
Stone has been involved in the community as a football coach with the Police Athletic League, Carver Center basketball director and past president of the Carver Center Men’s Ministry.
He also is a member of the Carver Center Board of Directors, Indiana Black Expo and Second Missionary Baptist Church.
