Kevin Tolloty has been hired as the new director of the combined Tipton city and county planning department.
Tolloty was chosen from among seven applicants to replace Steve Edson, who will retire March 31. Tolloty currently serves as executive director of the Rush County Area Planning Commission and resides in Indianapolis.
He has a master’s degree in urban planning from Akron University and carries certification from the American Institute of Planners. He previously worked as associate planner in Franklin, and as senior planner for the city of Spartanburg, S.C.
“I am very excited to be starting as the Tipton City-County Plan Director and becoming an active member of the community,” Tolloty said. “I think this is an amazing opportunity and I look forward to continuing the positive momentum.”
The planning department conference committee is responsible for oversight of the director and recommended Tolloty for the job.
Committee chairman Jim Ashley said he was pleased that Tipton County had a number of qualified applicants to choose from.
‘‘All candidates were well qualified with various attributes, which made for a difficult decision,’’ Ashley said. ‘‘Kevin seemed the best fit the needs of the community at this time.’’
County Plan Commission Board President Jason Henderson said he is looking forward to working with the new director and recognized the service of Edson during his six-year term as director.
