PERU – Deputies say a 50-year-old Kokomo man ran a group of motorcyclists off the road Sunday and then punched one of them in the face during an altercation.
Miami County deputies received a report Sunday afternoon of a vehicle accident on U.S. 31 near U.S. 24. Deputies were unable to find the accident but located a group of bikers in the parking lot of Gallahan Travel Plaza near the intersection.
One of the bikers, Brandon Santee from Kokomo, told deputies a blue Buick had forced him into the median while heading north on U.S. 31 during a road-rage incident.
Santee said the driver, later identified as Michael A. Ramey Sr., then stopped on the highway and approached him. During an altercation, he said, Ramey punched him in the face and then fled north on U.S. 31.
Santee was able to give deputies the license plate number on the vehicle. State police troopers later located Ramey near Rochester.
Ramey was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of battery resulting in injury and incarcerated at the Miami County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
Deputies said they don’t know yet why Ramey ran the bikers of the road and punched Santee.
More charges may be filed against him, deputies said.
