Ind. State Police lose 62 years' experience

Troopers Good, Shaver retire from Peru Post.

PERU — Two state troopers are retiring after a combined 62 years of service at the Peru Post.

Master Trooper Bob Good retired after serving the citizens of Indiana for 34 years. A 1979 graduate of the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, Good began his career patrolling Tipton County for the Indiana State Police Pendleton Post.

In 1980, Tipton County and the troopers who patrolled it were absorbed into the Indiana State Police Peru District. Good served the Peru District as a detective for one year and a corporal assigned as a post duty officer for four years. In 1993, Good returned to road patrol duties primarily in Tipton County.

During his career, Good was a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, the Indiana State Police Honor Guard and the Critical Incident Stress Management Team. He also was a field training officer. He was certified as a level three inspector of commercial motor vehicles and as a crash reconstructionist. In 1983, Good received the Indiana State Police Lifesaving Award for performing CPR on a man who had collapsed and was not breathing at the Indiana State Fair. In 2007, he was named the Trooper of the District at the Indiana State Police Peru Post.

In 2005, Good was among the state troopers assigned to patrol the streets of Biloxi, Miss. Troopers were sent by former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels as part of Operation Hoosier Relief to help the residents of Biloxi recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In 2012, Good also assisted the residents of Henryville, Ind., recover from the devastation caused by a March tornado.

Master Trooper Randy Shaver retired after serving the citizens of Indiana for 28 years. Shaver graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in November of 1985. He was assigned road patrol duties for the Peru Post. He patrolled primarily in Fulton County. In 1988, Shaver was assigned as one of the original high-performance vehicle officers or better known as “Mustang Units.”
