---- — PERU — A Subway restaurant employee and her boyfriend face felony theft charges after police say they stole more than $500 from a safe at Subway.

Indiana State Police arrested Dylan Gordon, 19, and his girlfriend, Sydney Ewing, 19, both from Peru, each on Class D felony theft charges stemming from the Tuesday night theft, state police reported.

State police were called to the store located at 2964 W. Miami County Road 100 North after a manager reported that more than $500 was missing from the restaurant’s safe.

The investigation by Trooper Adam Moor concluded that Gordon walked behind the restaurant’s counter, opened the safe, removed cash and then exited the restaurant. Evidence suggests he was able to gain access and open the safe because Ewing had instructed him on how to do so, police said. Ewing was an employee at the restaurant, state police reported.

During the course of the investigation, Moor obtained a search warrant for the couple’s home and vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly recovered the money.

Peru Police Department assisted in the investigation.
