A welcome home party for a wounded veteran returning from the Paralympic Winter Games in Soch, Russia is planned for Saturday at the VFW Post 1152, 920 N. Washington St.
A Northwestern High School graduate and Purple Heart recipient Joel Hunt was injured in a 2005 road-side blast during his third deployment to Iraq in three years. Along with being paralyzed, Hunt suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The party starts at 6 p.m. with dinner and refreshments.
A group of veterans and friends of Joel Hunt will welcome the wounded veteran who recently competed on the U.S. Paralympic team in Russia. Hunt now resides in Colorado and visits Kokomo each May for the Buddy Bowl, a flag football fundraiser at Northwestern High School aimed at helping veterans.
