Miami Co. murder subject of TV show "Secret Lives of Stepford Wives'

'Secret Lives of Stepford Wives' profiles convicted killer Susan Grund

In 1992, Susan Grund pointed a 9mm gun at her husband, a former Miami County prosecutor, and fired a single shot into his left eye at their home on Summit Drive in Peru.

Two years later, Grund was convicted of murdering her husband, James H. Grund, after a grueling jury trial in which more than 40 people testified.

The murder of a prominent prosecutor by his 35-year-old wife shocked the community. Now, the story is being featured on a new TV series on cable channel Investigation Discovery called “Secret Lives of Stepford Wives.”

“Every community has that one devastatingly attractive alpha-female with the Bergdorf-blonde hair and effortless charm that men love and other women love to hate,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, Destination America and Military Channel, in a press release. “‘Secret Lives of Stepford Wives’ reveals the ugly truth behind pretty women whose lives are all wine and roses, until someone discovers the skeletons in their walk-in closet.”

The episode will air at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Investigation Discovery.

Susan Grund was arrested in November 1992 after her sister, Darlene Worden, told detectives Susan Grund had confessed to shooting her husband.

The confession was confirmed when Susan Grund’s mother later found a large copper kettle kept in her attic had been filled with concrete.

The mother took the kettle to police in Peru, who broke open the concrete and found the murder weapon, according to court records.

The gun had been reported stolen about a month before the murder.

During court testimony, Susan Grund’s son said his parents’ marriage appeared to be rocky and they were seeing a marriage counselor.

The episode on Investigation Discovery covers the crime and investigation, and provides synopses of the Grunds’ home life and events leading up to the homicide.
