---- — Renovations to the second and third floors of Kokomo’s City Hall are set to begin after the Board of Public Works approved a contractor bid for the project to Hayes Brothers Inc.
The board approved a bid for $661,889 for the project, which is slated to begin in mid-April.
The project will replace the flooring on both floors and install lighting enhancements to replace some of the more inefficient lighting fixtures.
The remodeling also will provide more space for conference rooms, relocating a conference room in the Kokomo Police Department section of the second floor. A second conference room will be added on the third floor, where there is now a large space that had been used as a break room.
The Board of Works also finalized the city’s purchase of the downtown railroad Depot on North Buckeye Street on Wednesday. The building was purchased for $45,000 from the Central Railroad Company of Indianapolis [CERA]. The acquisition also included the purchase of two miles of railroad right-of-way north of the downtown area that will eventually be used in the continued construction of the Nickel Plate Trail.
The board also received a bid for five 2014 police-equipped cars and will take the sole bid, from Button Motors, under advisement. The bid for four 2014 Dodge Chargers came in at $154,616, along with an unmarked administrative vehicle bid for $34,166.
