Police look for modern Grinch

Christmas presents for needy family stolen.

Tipton — Christmas presents intended for a needy family were among items stolen in one of two burglaries being investigated by the Tipton County Sheriff Department.

Like the fictional character in the Dr. Seuss Christmas tale “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” deputies say someone broke into one of the homes 1 mile southwest of Tipton and stole presents underneath the family tree as well as presents intended for a needy family.

Other valuable items were taken from a second house.

Sheriff John R. Moses said the burglaries occurred between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and were believed to be committed by the same people.

Neighbors in the area told deputies that a woman knocked on their door at about the same time as the burglaries asking for directions to Kokomo. Deputies are not sure if she is involved, but would like to talk to her.

After giving the woman directions, the neighbors said she left in a dark green Jeep Cherokee driven by a man.

The woman was described as approximately 30 to 35 years old, standing 5 feet, 3 inches with a heavy build and long dark brown hair, Moses said.

Anyone who has experienced a similar encounter with these people are asked to contact Deputy Steven Johnson at 765-675-7004.
