Couple charged in pot growing operating

---- — Kokomo police sniffed out a marijuana grow operation early Friday on the city’s north side.While on routine patrol in the area of Locke and Fischer streets shortly after midnight, Officer Drew Wallsmith smelled a strong odor of marijuana. On foot, Wallsmith tracked the odor to a house at 2506 N. Locke St., Maj. Brian Seldon reported in a news release.The officer then obtained and executed a search warrant and located 72 pot plants and drug paraphernalia inside the residence and arrested Matthew J. Mickler, 36, and Tara E. Mickler, 28.They both were charged with a Class C felony dealing in marijuana and D felony charges of possession of marijuana, cultivating marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, the news release stated.Both people were transported to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center.
