Kokomo police are on the lookout for a suspect or suspects who robbed two banks at gunpoint Thursday.
Officers were first dispatched at 11:09 a.m. to Kokomo Heritage Federal Credit Union, 901 S. Courtland Ave., on the report of an armed robbery.
Witnesses told police a man walked into the bank armed with a semi-automatic handgun demanding money.
After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the man was seen running west from the bank.
Officers set up a perimeter around the bank in search of the suspect. A K-9 unit also was called to assist in the search.
Witnesses described the man as a white male standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a green baseball-style cap.
Five-and-a-half hours later, police received a second armed robbery report this time at the Regions Bank, 3545 S. Lafountain St.
Police converged on the area shortly after 4:30 p.m. and scoured the area, but the armed man had already fled the bank.
Maj. Brian Seldon said police will be patrolling areas around area banks just in case he strikes again.
“We are going to be vigilant around the banks until we get this guy caught,” Seldon said.
The man’s description in both robberies, Seldon said, is similar to the description of a man involved in a Dec. 28 armed robbery at Star Financial Bank, 1708 E. Markland Ave.
In the Dec. 28 hold-up, witnesses gave a similar description except that the man was wearing a mask that made him resemble an older man.
In Thursday’s holdups, the man had a dark-colored scarf covering his face, according to police reports.
Anyone with further information about these robberies should contact Detective Scott Purtee at 765-456-322, or the KPD Hotline at 765-456-7017.
