Sheriff deputies investigate shooting death

Rex Lidy died of a single gunshot to the chest

— Sheriff deputies are investigating the death of a 59-year-old man found with a gunshot wound to his chest Friday at his house at 7017 W. 600 North.

Sheriff Steve Rogers said a 911 call came in shortly before 11 a.m. reporting a self-inflicted shooting.

Detectives arrived on the scene shortly later and began an investigation.

There, they found Rex E. Lidy on the back porch of the home with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is set for today, Howard County Coroner Jay Price said Friday.

Deputies cordoned off the back porch of the home with crime scene tape as they began conducting interviews.

Rogers said detectives are conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances around the shooting.

Anyone with further information should contact the sheriff department at 765-457-1105.
