Kokomo police charged a man who drew a gun on an employee and customers at an adult novelty store Tuesday with several felonies, including attempted murder.
James Hoover, 69, walked into Cirilla’s, 902 S. Reed Road, at about 4 p.m. armed with a handgun and threatened a clerk and customers, Kokomo Police Department Maj. Brian Seldon said.
The people inside the business managed to wrestle the gun away from Hoover with one shot being fired. No one was injured and Hoover and the gun were secured by witnesses until police arrived, Seldon said.
Hoover was taken to Community Howard Regional Health with minor injuries before being jailed without bail. Along with a Class A felony attempted murder, Hoover was charged with Class B felony burglary and Class C felony criminal recklessness and misdemeanor public intoxication.
Formal charges are expected to be filed this week in the case.
