PERU — State police say they discovered heroin, marijuana and prescription drugs on a 30-year-old Mishawaka man when police stopped his car on U.S. 31.
Jesse J. Perkins was arrested Tuesday on felony charges of possession of heroin, possession of a Schedule II narcotic and possession of a hypodermic needle, along with misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
State police stopped Perkins on U.S. 31 near 400 North in Miami County after other drivers reported a Cadillac was driving off the road and swerving from lane to lane.
Police said a police dog was used to conduct a free air sniff around the Cadillac. The dog gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.
Perkins was incarcerated at the Miami County jail.
