---- — PERU — The three Republican candidates running for state treasurer in 2014 will meet for the first time since announcing their candidacy Saturday at the Miami County Republican Fall Dinner.

The candidates are Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold, Kelly Mitchell, the director of the Trust INdiana office of the state treasurer, and former U.S. Senate and congressional candidate Don Bates Jr., who will all speak at the dinner.

The candidates are vying to replace current Treasurer Richard Murdoch, who can’t run for re-election.

State Auditor Dwayne Sawyer also will attend the event and give the keynote address. The former Brownsburg Council chairman was appointed to the position by Gov. Mike Pence in August. This will be his first appearance in the county.

Ethan Manning, chairman of the Miami County Republican Party, said he’s personally met Sawyer and was happy he agreed to come to the dinner.

“I’ve met Dwayne and I came away impressed by his strengths and his qualifications that surely made it easy for Gov. Pence to appoint him,” Manning said.

A reception begins at 5:30 p.m. at the 4-H community building, 1079 W. 200 North, Peru, with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20. A silent auction also will be held during the event.

“Having a statewide elected official and three candidates for another statewide office traveling here to speak at our Republican Fall Dinner shows the strength of our local party and the important role we, as an entire county, play in making Indiana a state where Republican leadership is working,” Manning said.
