---- — A 50-year-old Kokomo man was killed in a collision between a mo-ped and minivan at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.

Scott L. Cacy was traveling south on Apperson Way on a red Tao Tao mo-ped when a 2002 silver Nissan Quest driven by Michael E. Kraatz pulled into the intersection at Apperson and Walnut Street.

Cacy struck the left side of Kraatz’s vehicle and was thrown from his mo-ped. He sustained severe head trauma, which proved fatal. Kraatz, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, said he first thought he had hit a large pothole, but when he opened the driver’s side door, he realized a mo-ped had collided with his vehicle.

Kraatz said he had stopped at the intersection while traveling east and didn’t see the mo-ped when he continued along Walnut Street. Beth Kraatz was a passenger in the minivan.

The Kokomo Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash and plans to issue a press release with more information this afternoon.
