PERU — Peru Community Schools Superintendent Chuck Brimbury has announced he will step down from his position and become the district’s athletic director next school year.
The Peru Community School Board Monday accepted Brimbury’s request to replace current Athletic Director Brian Strong, who is leaving to take a job as the new athletic director for Logansport Community Schools after six years at Peru.
Brimbury served as the superintendent for four years. During his tenure, the district was named a four-star school system for being one of the best-performing districts in the state.
Brimbury also made appearances at the statehouse to advocate for legislation to secure funding for Peru schools, along with 48 school districts.
But after four years, Brimbury said he was ready to return to an athletic position.
“It is now time for me to return to the building and the day-to-day successes and struggles of our students and staff,” he said. “This decision was entirely due to my own request, based on my family and my prayer.”
Brimbury said he previously worked as coach for 17 years, spending 10 years as the head baseball coach and 15 years with the varsity football team.
However, he will remain the superintendent until the school board hires his replacement.
Brimbury said serving as superintendent has provided the most rewarding years of his career, but he’s looking forward to the new position.
“I will embrace this new position with all the passion and dedication I have my previous positions at Peru Community Schools,” he said. “I am very proud to remain a Peru Tiger.”
